A new title: Notes from the Lightning God by John W Schouten

Here is another great book we're excited to have published.

In the majestic Andes a civilization is torn apart by revolution, terror, murder and extortion. A rebel army vows to bring down a corrupt government, which is equally brutal in defending its own interests. Meanwhile defenseless peasants are swept up in the bloodbath.

Into the strangely peaceful town of Santa Rosita wanders Samson Young, a med-school dropout and budding anthropologist. Sam’s well-intended efforts to get his bearings and win the trust of the villagers seem fruitless, doomed by superstition that casts him as a pale bringer of death and disaster. That is, until an accident of nature transforms him in their eyes into a savior. Their legendary Lightning God.

As the unbridled violence closes in around him and the people with whom he has cast his lot, Sam can only record the horror in futile field notes … and count its victims.

In Notes from the Lightning God, good and evil reside impurely in shades of gray. Terrorists, soldiers, police and drug lords, more than purely evil, are hard-edged expressions of their times and struggles. Sam’s allies and antagonists include a village priest in a crisis of faith, a precocious eight-year-old boy, an extortionist cop, a lady doctor with a mobile medical clinic, a pragmatic captain of industry and coca, a conflicted television star, and a spirited and seductive graduate student, who is destined to be the love of Sam’s life … or the death of him.

Our latest title: Flawed by Tom Larsen

BeWrite Books is proud to announce the latest addition to our catalogue.

'Brass Balls’ Riley is leading a settled life when a friend from his youth re-appears with a scheme to make one, last, big score. Riley carries off the caper with the not-altogether helpful assistance of his criminally impaired wife and their friend. Can the wily and resourceful Riley keep one step ahead of the police, the FBI, and the special investigators hired by the victim?
This is an intriguing tale, told primarily from Riley’s point of view, reminiscent of Raymond Chandler in style. Beautifully crafted, it takes the reader into Riley’s mind and his surroundings sympathetically and humorously. A first rate read.

"Masters of the Hunt" by Hugh McCracken published today!

Now fully trained for grim medieval warfare and in their mid teens, Hugh McCracken’s small band of once-reluctant time travellers take history into their own hands and journey back to 13th Century Scotland where age-old friends – and bitter enemies – are waiting.

In their desperate bid to save the dukedom of the young nobleman they have taken under their wing, the time-shifting Lords of Möbius recruit a squad of turncoat mercenaries to their cause ... and a teenaged William ‘Braveheart’ Wallace, unsuspectingly destined for battle, glory, torture and excruciating execution.

Once again in his popular series of thought-provoking historical adventure novels, McCracken meticulously recreates the harsh realities of medieval life and death as his heroes and anti-heroes struggle to apply a modern mind-set to the cruelties and superstitions of a world, geographically on their very doorstep, but 750 years distant in time.

Available in Print and eBook format from www.bewrite.net, Amazon, and all major retailers.

Prestwick by David Hough - Out Now

Three pilots, three crippled aircraft but only one can land.

A freak mid-air collision cripples a trans-Atlantic 747 and a US Air Force jet.

What’s left of the planes’ crews struggle against the clock and overwhelming odds to save their on board survivors.

But no airport will allow them to even attempt a landing because of a secret international emergency that overshadows their own problems, condemning more than four hundred people to almost sure and horrible death over icy, blizzard-swept seas.

Meanwhile, an obsessed narcotics detective aboard the shattered Jumbo tries to pin drug smuggling and murder on its injured captain and crew.

Could things get any worse?

They could. And they do. Much, much worse!

David Hough whips his reader along in a roaring jet stream of action and high tension that buckles the reader to his seat. Prestwick is a breathtaking, whirlwind of a thriller.

Riders of the Seven Hills - Out Now

Lad Moore tells tales ... some of them long, some of them short and some of them - by his own admission - pretty tall. All of them re-create a world of recent yesterdays to set some folks to rememberin' and others to dreamin'.

They're down home yarns of East Texas and dazzling adventure stories set in the mysterious Far East, they're of store-stove conferences and dark murders, of the good, the bad and the ugly who've crossed his many paths.

Lad's writing has appeared in countless journals and anthologies and Riders of the Seven Hills is the third of his popular collections, each of which - although skillfully presented in dozens of bite-sized chunks - leave his reader with that satisfying, well-fed feeling of someone who's just devoured an epic novel.

His cast of players come and go; sometimes with a character taking center stage, sometimes with him or her merely in the chorus. Just as you'd expect in real life. But the creeping result is real life people who grow familiar as the stories unfold, events that are fully explored, and places that almost miraculously achieve solid form as the pages swiftly turn.

Lad's short works take shape like the tiny dabs of seemingly random color in an impressionist painting. The colors combine to create a living landscape because the brush is held by a master of his art. Now let's take the time to step back a little and admire the broad canvas.

Out Now - A Wilderness Arcade by Alex Stolis

In his first full-length poetry collection, Alex Stolis explores a multitude of fascinating, yet flawed characters: iconic movie directors creating their scenes, a despondent emperor in a tarot card, a female bullfighter preparing for battle, Dick and Jane dying slowly in the suburbs. From mysterious old letters addressed to a lover in West Hollywood, to anonymous authors who quietly lament the loss of an old world, Stolis' skillful use of exquisite language and his exploration of universal human truths make for an impressive and compelling compilation.
A Wilderness Arcade at 4AM

I want to be on an island with Patti Smith:
bookmark words in the sand, dredge
the ocean for poems. I want to curl and twist
wrists into conch shells, flirt with madness,
pluck guitar picks from tree tops
and bury my head in the sun's shoulder.

I want to wake to the bloom of white noise,
watch skyscrapers rise like salt-licks
against an asphalt horizon, cross my legs
on rooftops, strain to hear the sound of traffic.
Mostly; I want to be on an island with Patti Smith
A Wilderness Arcade excerpt

Alex Stolis is the author of six chapbooks, and the recipient of five Pushcart Prize nominations. His sixth chapbook, small confessions & pebbles of regret, was a collaborative effort with the Austrian Poet Michaela Gabriel. A Wilderness Arcade is his first full-length collection. Alex lives and works in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

The Devil Can Wait by Marta Stephens - Out Now

A Sam Harper Crime Mystery

The city of Chandler, Massachusetts is plunged into terror when the bodies of three local teenagers wash ashore. While homicide detective Sam Harper hunts down the guilty, a sinister plot emerges overseas. From the Vatican to the jungles of South America, a cursed black pearl ring, the demonic prophecy it represents, and the men who pursue its powers find their unfortunate way onto Harper's turf.

Enthralled by the ring's story and a front-page spread, newspaper reporter Jennifer Blake agrees to pick up the ring at a local pawnshop for her former college professor. When she does, unforeseen events shoot Blake to the top of Harper's prime suspect list. Soon, the seemingly unrelated cases converge and the heat is on for Harper to expose the truth behind a Vatican secret and stop the self-righteous man who does the unthinkable in the name of God.

Sam Harper is back in the blistering followup to 2007'S SILENCED CRY. Serial murders, small-time crooks, an ancient prophecy tied to a cursed ring, and a beautiful reporter who's as dogged in her pursuit of the truth as Harper himself - Marta Stephens fits the pieces of the intricate plot together with the assured skill of a master craftsman. It's a pure joy to watch it all come together. Shamus Nominee J.D. Rhoades, author of BREAKNG COVER

The Devil Can Wait interlaces a complex plot that grabs the reader and doesn't let go ... Sam Harper is thrust into a world that leads to a cursed papal ring tied to biblical prophecies in the book of Daniel. Sam's not a religious man, but it raises the question of whether a series of unrelated murders are the result of a sick mind or are they actually connected to the beasts in Daniel chapter 7? Harper's investigation leads him on an unpredictable trail making him more of a believer with each turn. This one is a must read. Donna Sundblad

Stephens' compelling characters, razor-sharp dialogue, fascinating forensic detail, and complex plot twists make this second book even more entertaining than the first. Stephens introduces the element of the supernatural into the cutting world of Sam Harper, giving the reader something new to savor, and undoubtedly hooking her fans with longing for the next release in the series. THE DEVIL CAN WAIT more than lives up to the expectation set by Stephens' first book! Jennifer Luzadder, Muncie Public Library

Looking for a deliciously convoluted tale that will twist its way through your brain and keep you up late into the night? Look no further, for Marta Stephens has just released the second book in the Sam Harper crime mystery series, The Devil Can Wait. Stephens has skillfully detailed police procedures in a realistic fashion and has woven intriguing subplots with a love entanglement that thrusts the story forward to its climatic end. The sexual tension between Harper and reporter Jennie Blake is natural and sublime - adding icing to this already delectable confection of supernatural elements, grisly murders, and the stoic talent and courage of one very likeable cop. Don't take my word for it - buy it and read it today. Aaron Paul Lazar

The Second Coming of Sam Harper was not a disappointment. Three times I just knew I had the plot figured out only to have Sam Harper, prove that candidate innocent. Twists and turns take us from a Voodoo Priestess in Columbia, to the bowels of the Catholic Church, to astral projections. A wicked good story by Marta Stephens. Jake George

The Bait Shack by Harry Hughes - Out Now

Unemployed whiz kid Dale Cooles struggles to save his marriage and his sanity when his previously charmed life’s turned topsy turvy by a cadre of killers and clowns.

Dale and wife Lacy – daughter of an eccentric but filthy rich Tennessee lumber magnate – unwittingly adopt into their domestic wrangle Twist, the brain-damaged orphan, and Lieutenant Revels, the beat-weary yet determined conservation officer seeking revenge for Lacy’s unscrupulous boss’s part in the mysterious extinction of rare birds on a prime piece of real estate.

And then there are the other extinctions ... the human ones.

In the parade of offbeat characters in Hughes’ ingenious and ’90s-set street smart black comedy of crime, we meet cutthroat businessman Henry Meredith, out for what he can get, psycho hitman Connie Jablonski, out for what he can hurt, mobster Johnny Avalino, greedy to enhance the value of his beach-front property by any means, Nancy Littlecrow, the shameless and cagey Native American attorney who gives new meaning to the term ‘Indian Affairs’, Seymour L. Bram, the retired and retiring Air Force Major suffering from chronic depression and delusions of easy money, Duncan Slochbauer, the slovenly and obsessed amateur producer of grisly news videos ...

And we don’t quite meet poor Karen Kern and the faceless others who might have crossed the path of a crazed and kinky serial killer nobody seems to have noticed lurking somewhere in Hughes’ uniquely colourful dramatis personae.

Harry Hughes takes noir to a new level. Wry, classy, compelling, and utterly hysterical. Think Iain Pears crossed with Martin Amis. Dale and Lacy make an endearing team of anti-heroes in a world showing its true colours. Magdalena Ball. The Compulsive Reader

A stunning first novel. An up-to-date take on the classic American murder mystery. Harry Hughes tells his suspenseful story in quick-paced and colorful prose and creates dozens of sharply drawn characters, including Dale Cooles, an unforgettable anti-hero in the Philip Marlowe tradition. Michael Lydon. Author. Co-founder of Rolling Stone Magazine

ALLAKAZZAM!

Wickedly humorous Daniel Abelman is our guide on a magical mystery tour of African and Jewish culture, apartheid, the holocaust, telepathy, police corruption, rigged boxing, exploding dogs and orthodontics ... while a lovable psychic conman tries to peddle a miraculously discovered manuscript to gullible publishers with $$$ in their eyes.

The astute reader navigates a labyrinth of highways and cul-de-sacs from the African bush to Jerusalem, via Germany, solving riddle after riddle (never sure if he, too, is falling under the trickster's hypnotic spell), until he ultimately finds himself as though waking from a memorable dream.

Abelman writes with an enchanted pen. He shatters the rules of the novelist's art by creating new and more ingenious ones of his own, pulling rabbits from hats where other authors don't even have hats.

ALLAKAZZAM! is accompanied by three of Abelman's haunting short stories.
